RP cue masters in Guinness 9-ball
THE Philippine billiards team led by Marlon ‘Marvelous’ Manalo vie for pride and honor when they play against some of the best players in the world in the 2010 Guinness World Series 9-ball Championships slated July 28 to August 1 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Baka dito sa Guinness sa Jakarta ay matumbok na din natin ang titulo,” said Manalo who share his blessings yesterday to fellow Barangay Malamig resident by giving a feeding program and medical mission.
“Naging panata na natin makatulong sa mga ka Barangay Malamig natin kahit sa munting pamamaraan,” added the Jose Rizal University (JRU) AB Economics graduate.
Manalo, outstanding athlete of Mandaluyong City, backed up by its’ mayor Benhur Abalos and Solar Sports.
The former Asian Snooker Champion lost to compatriot and eventual 9-ball champion Francisco “Django” Bustamante during their quarter-final round matches at the just ended World Pool Championships in Doha, Qatar.
In Jakarta, Manalo needed to go through qualification tournament set July 24 that includes Ronato Alcano, Lee Vann Corteza, Dennis Orcullo, Antonio Lining, Roberto Gomez, Carlo Biado, Ricky Zerna and Jundel Mazon.
Alex Pagulayan and Antonio Gabica are the only two Filipino already in the main draw of the tournament offering $40,000 for the champion.
Also in the tournament’s main draw are Mika Immonen (Finland), Ralf Souquet (Germany), Ricky Yang (Indonesia), Thorsten Hohmann (Germany), Darren Appleton (England), Shane Van Boening (USA), and Johnny Archer (USA).
