‘100 days of HR violations’
AN UMBRELLA organization of peasants has declared President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s first 100 days as President as “100 Days of Human Rights Abuses against Peasants.”
The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) said extra-judicial killings remained unabated even under the Aquino administration.
It said the number of those killed among the ranks of the peasants since President Aquino came to power has reached 10 or an average of one fatality in 10 days.
President Aquino’s 100th day as President will fall on October 9.
KMP officials expressed disappoint over the President’s failure to implement a genuine land reform program.
Worse, they said, President Aquino is even pushing for the Public-Private Partnership, which they claimed would result in dislocation among farmers and massive land-use conversions (LUCs).
The peasant group, in a statement, said the President is allowing human rights violations against farmers in order to protect the interest of big landlords.
“We firmly believe that extra-judicial killings are part of his fascist attack on the peasants who struggle for land and justice,” said KMP spokesperson Antonio Flores. D’Jay Lazaro
