AFP behind slay attempt on fisherfolk leader’s life
THE military backed the Central Luzon-based death squad that attempted to assassinate the former chairperson of the left-leaning fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya).
“There’s no doubt the death squad of the Armed Forces of the Philippines operating in Central Luzon is behind the recent unsuccessful attempts on the life of my colleague, Chairperson Emeritus Rodolfo Sambajon,” said current Pamalakaya chairperson Fernando Hicap in a press statement.
Hicap said the AFP death squad who were after the former Pamalakaya leader were members of a para-military group and trained military assassins belonging to the 3rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army under the Northern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“The slay attempt on Sambajon is part of the long-running dirty war game plan of Malacañang and the AFP under the banner of Yellow Republic’ and administration of Benigno Simeon ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III,” he said.
Hicap urged President Aquino and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin to “order the military and its death squad to stop tailing and pestering the Pamalakaya chairperson emeritus with slay attempts and round-the-clock surveillance and AFP sanctioned harassment.”
In his affidavit signed last September 27, the 63-year-old Sambajon said that on September 12, at around 10 in the morning while attending a farmer’s meeting in Sitio Bangad, Orion, province of Bataan, three unidentified men riding on motorcyle came and talked to one of the farmers.
After the meeting, the former Pamalakaya chairperson said he immediately proceeded to a waiting shed for a bus ride when the two men he earlier saw in the meeting and now riding on a motorcycle approached him.
They asked the peasant leader who he was, where he lives and why was he in the meeting.
When Sambajon asked the men who they were, the two shouted at him and declared that they belong to Orion police.
They left immediately when they sensed that somebody was approaching.
“Nang sila’y umalis ay dali-dali din akong umalis at minabuti kong bumalik sa aming lugar sa Bangad. Habang ako’y naglalakad pabalik ay nalingunan ko sa di kalayuan na nakasunod sa akin ang magka-angkas na naka-motorsiklo,” Sambajon said. D’Jay Lazaro
