Cop who berated a reporter charged
A REPORTER of a broadsheet reporter yesterday lodged a complaint against a member of the Manila Police District (MPD) who allegedly berated the former while performing his duty as a journalist.
Leonard James Postrado, 23, a reporter of the Manila Bulletin, personally went to the MPD-General Assignment Section to lodge a complaint against Senior Insp. Azur Villafranca, assigned at the administrative office of MPD Station 5 in Ermita, Manila.
Chief Insp. Mar Reyes, head of the MPD-GAS, said the incident happened at 10:30 a.m. inside the MPD Station 5 while the reporter was checking the police station’s blotter.
“Bakit mo ako pina-dyaryo? Akala mo kung sino ka!” Postrado quoted the police official.
“Marami pa siyang sinabi sa akin habang nakaduro ang kamay niya sa akin,” the reporter added.
The stunned Postrado tried to explain his side but decided eventually to leave the station to avoid further confrontation with the police official.
The incident was also witnessed by several cops and bystanders in the said police station.
It was learned that the police officer reportedly got mad at Postrado when the latter wrote the alleged hostage-taking in Paco, Manila last Sept. 9.
The incident, which took place in Quirino Grandstand, claimed the lives of eight foreigners and the hostage-taker. Jing Villamente
