EAC plays JRU
FORMER Shell Rimula-X point guard Gerald Esplana joins a group of former pros now coaching in the NCAA after replacing Nomar Isla as head coach of Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Esplana joins Vergel Meneses of Jose Rizal, Chito Victolero of Mapua, Richard del Rosario of St. Benilde, Leo Isaac of Arellano U, Frankie Lim of San Beda and Ato Agustin of San Sebastian.
Esplana will be pitted against fellow former PBA star Meneses in today’s 4 p.m encounter at the reception of the 86th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City .
Isla, who guided EAC to historic sweep in NCRAA four years ago, was promoted as its representative to the Management Committee chaired by Frank Gusi of host San Sebastian taking over from Mike Viado, who is reportedly migrating to Canada .
The Bombers, who snatched their 10th win over St. Benilde Blazers, 73-55 last Friday will try to fan their hopes for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
“That’s our goal right now,” said Jose Rizal coach Meneses. “But more than that, we also want to get the needed momentum going into the Final Four.”
Letran, for its part, goes up against a St. Benilde that is already out of the Final Four race at 2 p.m. Elech Dawa
