Foreign lawyers set to visit Morong 43
OFFICERS and members of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) will visit the detained Morong 43 health workers this week at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City.
The foreign lawyers want to personally see for themselves the condition of the detained health workers. They also wish to hear for themselves the harrowing experiences of the illegal arrest, torture and continued unjust detention of the 43.
IADL president Jeanne Mirer (USA) and key officers from Belgium, Cameroon, India, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, the Philippines and other countries will compose the international delegation.
IADL is the biggest human rights lawyers’ group in the world. It has taken the Morong 43 case and the cases of 371 other political prisoners in the Philippines as an international campaign.
The Philippines hosted the Fifth Conference of Lawyers in Asia Pacific (COLAP V) last Sept. 18-19 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City. It is the biggest gathering of progressive and human rights lawyers in the world this year. D’Jay Lazaro
