Lining bows in China
SHANGHAI — No All-Pinoy finals. And worse, the Philippines lost the championship.
Local hero Yu Long Zhang frustrated the Philippines’ campaign for another major finish, beating RP bet Antonio Lining, 11-7, in the finals of the China 9 Ball Open tournament on Sunday at the Minya Hotel here.
In the women’s singles finals, Si Ming Chen edged Allison Fisher of Great Britain, 9-7, to complete the Chinese domination in the tournament.
By winning the championship, Yu took home the top prize of $40,000. Lining settled for the runner-up prize of $15,000, but boosted his rankings in the World Pool-Billiard Association.
Currently ranked seventh in the world, Lining is expected to move a few rungs higher.
Another Filipino player expected to improve his rating is last year’s World Ten Ball runner-up Lee Van Corteza, also make it to the semifinals, but lost to Zhang in their duel.
