Sports icon backs NPC badminton tilt

The National Press Club (NPC) 3rd Media Open Badminton Championship set Oct. 2-3 at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Center in Vito Cruz St., Manila.
Swimming great and former sports chairman Eric Buhain, now the Immigration Exectuive Director, and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) ex-chairman Lito Alvarez, currently the top brass in the Bureau of Customs, have joined government and private agencies in supporting the two-day event as part of the NPC’s activity in connection of its 58th founding anniversary next month.
NPC president Jerry Yap expressed his gratitude to Buhain and Alvarez for leading the fund-raising caused even as he reiterated his call on all media publications, media press corps’ and stakeholders to join the two-day event aiming to foster camaraderie among its members and friends.
Twelve media group have so far confirmed their participation in the tournament also backed by Barefootwear, Inc. distributor of Vibram Fivefingers, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, PBA Part-list Rep. Mark Sambar, San Miguel Corporation and Unilever Philippines.
Last year’s runner-up Dep-Ed Press Corps led confirmed teams along with Manila Bulletin, Tempo, Eastern Police District Press Corps, Malaya, The Manila Times, Manila Standard-Today, Remate, Hataw, NPC, Dep-Ed Press Corps’, Senate, Department of Labor, Remate Tonight and DMDC.
Deadline for the submission of entries is on Friday (Oct.1).
“We reiterating our invitation to all member and media friends to join us in this endeavor as we celebrating the 58th founding anniversary of the NPC,” said Yap.
Two divisions is at stake – media and open class – in badminton competition with an entry fee of P3,000 for the open class where teams can field Class A players or former varsity players and member of the national pool.
No entry fee for the media division.
Trophies and cash prize awaits winners while special gift packs will be raffled off during the event proper.
