ASG member in Lamitan siege arrested in Basilan
COMBINED military and police intelligence operatives arrested yesterday an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member who is wanted for the Lamitan seige in July 2001, police reports said.
According to reports reaching Camp Crame, the arrested bandit was identified as Bidung Ismael, alias Ben Ismael.
Ismael was nabbed by government troops in Brgy. Limuok, Lamitan City in Basilan at around 12 noon by joint operatives from the Basilan Provincial Police and Naval Intelligence Service Group (NISG), reports said.
The suspect was arrested based on a warrant of arrest for serious illegal detention in connection with the siege of a rural hospital in Lamitan City.
Ismael is now under the custody of the NISG personnel and being brought to the Zamboanga City for tactical investigation and proper disposition, the reports said. Anthony Vargas
