Fatima U wins NAASCU tilt

OUR  Lady  of  Fatima University is this year’s NAASCU junior basketball champion.

Fatima  brought down  Centro  Escolar  University, 76-73, to complete a two-game sweep of their best-of-three title showdown at the  Makati Coliseum.

AJ Perea, Dhan Alberto and Harley  Diego  joined  forces as  the Young Phoenix shut down the Baby  Scorpions’ last-ditch stand and  clinch  the crown in  this 10-team tournament organized by NAASCU,  headed by Dr. Jy Adalem.

Perea and Alberto scored 12 points  apiece , while Diego contributed 10  points for  the Valenzuela City-based  squad  of  fomer national  team player-turned – coach  Ralph  Emerson  Rivera and assistant  coach  Dondon Villamin.

Mark Jervin  Parale carried  the fight for  the  Noli Mejos-mentored  Baby  Scorpions  with 22  markers.

Paolo Panchito added 15 points.

St. Clare  College-Caloocan defeated  dethroned  champion University of Manila,68-59, to clinch  third place.

Mating Gil fired 22 points and Kenneth Macapulay added  15 points for the Baby Saints.

Pedito Galanza paced  the  Bang Tumapat-mentored  Hawklets with 15 points.

Dr.  Adalem  awarded the trophies to the winners,  assisted by  NAASCU senior adviser  Atty Ernesto Delos  Santos and commissioner Igmidio “Boy” Cahanding.

St. Clare (68) — Gil 22, K.Macapulay 15, Barte 7, DeLeon 7, Mercado 5, De Mesa 4, Federez 4, Libunao 2, Paguirigan 2.

UM (59) — Galanza 15, Baylen 9, Castro 8, Eneria 8, Santos 6, Alfonso 5, Serrano  4, Nicolas 4, Cipriano 0, DeGuzman 0.
