Fruit dealer shot dead by robbers
A 58-year-old fruit dealer was shot dead and robbed by four unidentified men on board two motorcycles yesterday morning in Binondo, Manila. Police identified the victim as Valeriano Castro, of No. 807 Sto. Cristo St., Binondo, Manila.
Castro was declared dead on arrival at Mother and Child Hospital due to three gunshot wounds on his body.
SPO4 Steve Casimiro of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section said the incident happened at 10:20 a.m. while the victim was walking along Sto. Cristo St., near his fruit stand.
The victim was on his way to a nearby Allied Bank branch to deposit cash when the unidentified robbers suddenly approached him and shot him at close range.
“Ano ba yan?” was reportedly the last words of the victim, according to witness Marissa Goden, 21, saleslady at the Tony Val Imported fruit store owned by the victim.
