HK attaché urged to resign
A LABOR attaché to Hong Kong is in hot water after verbally berating an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who sought assistance from the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong over the illegal termination of her contract by her employer.
Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano yesterday asked Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and Philippine Consul General Claro Cristobal to investigate labor attaché Romulo Salud for his unbecoming behavior against Agnes Tenorio.
Salud reportedly scolded the distraught Tenorio, a first-time OFW, for being “distrustful” and told her to go back to the Philippines.
“Mr. Salud’s attitude is inappropriate and totally unacceptable. This kind of judgment by a labor attaché who is duty-bound to protect and uphold the rights of Filipino workers abroad is alarming,” he said.
The conversation was recorded and immediately went viral through various social networks.
