Lim supports journalists running for village office
MAYOR Alfredo S. Lim yesterday called on the electorate of Manila to choose their barangay leaders wisely in view of the forthcoming barangay elections next week.
Lim also expressed belief that journalists seeking public office mean well, given their background as members of the fourth estate and therefore, part of government workings as public servants.
“Basta journalist, tapat sa tungkulin,” Lim said, as he graced the soft opening of the new barangay and multi-purpose hall built at Barangay 420 Zone 43 in Sampaloc (4th district) through the efforts of The Daily Tribune reporter Pat Santos, who is running for chairman in the said barangay.
Lim went on to vouch for the character and integrity of Santos, stressing that as a journalist, he is also an advocate for good governance.
The mayor went on to laud another journalist present, Jun Anzures of DWAD, whom he said served his constituents well as a barangay councilor and is thus seeking re-election in Barangay 90, Zone 7 in the first district of Tondo.
Members of the media, Lim said, do good in public service because they serve as watchdogs of the public against grafters in government.
Meanwhile, the mayor urged the voting public to be wary of candidates who engage in vote-buying.
“Tanggapin ninyo ang pera nung mga kandidato na namumudmod ng pera pero ibasura ang kandidatura nila dahil iniinsulto nila ang inyong pagkatao. Sigurado din na babawiin nila ang kanilang ginastos sa oras na magkaroon ng pagkakataong makaupo sa puwesto,” he told the Sampaloc residents.
Lim went on to remind the residents that it is only during election day that the gap between the rich and the poor is bridged, since they all are entitled to just one vote.
“Huwag sana natin aksayahin ang ating boto. Piliin natin `yung mga tunay na karapat-dapat at ang talagang intensyon ay maglingkod sa bayan,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lim invited the residents to attend a medical mission which he himself will lead tomorrow (Saturday) in the same area. Jerry Tan
