PNoy skips ‘Juan’ meeting upon the advice of Gazmin
PRESIDENT Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III yesterday skipped a morning command conference called to discuss preparations for the strongest storm to hit the country to attend a Cabinet anti-poverty cluster meeting.
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said he advised President Aquino to skip the 9 a.m. meeting in Camp Aguinaldo after the President asked if he was still needed.
“May meeting ngayon e, may anti-poverty cluster meeting na kailangang niyang harapin. Sabi niya, ‘Tutuloy pa ba ako dyan?’ Sabi ko hindi na kailangan kasi everything is in order naman, everything is in place,” Gazmin told reporters in a chance interview.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) gave a briefing at the meeting on the status of typhoon “Juan” (international codename: Megi) and government preparations for what international weather agencies have dubbed a super typhoon.
The defense secretary said that he had already gave a briefing on President Aquino regarding the government’s preparations for Juan. Anthony Vargas
