PSC taps Cebu Pacific
THE Philippine Sports Commission tapped Cebu Pacific as the official carrier of the Philippine Team the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
PSC Chairman Richie Garcia said the agency through commissioner Chito Loyzaga is under close negotiation with the airline company transport the 232-strong RP team to the bustling city of Guangzhou.
“Walang flight ang PAL, while Cebu and China SEA Air lang ang may byahe. We picked Cebu Pacific and negotiation for a possible sponsorship package in underway,” said Garcia. Cebu Pacific taps by PSC
An alternative route is to take a flight to Hong Kong then travel by train or bus to Guangzhou, which would take about two hours.
But Garcia revealed the option was scrapped by Philippine Olympic Committee, headed by Jose Cojuangco Jr., for security reason.
“Iniisip din ng POC ang comfort and security din ng athletes, mas madali talaga na direct ang flight nila. Siguro kung officials okay lang pero ang athletes direct flight.”
The Philippines, which will compete in 30 sports, is looking to improve on its four gold, six silver and nine bronze medals in the 2006 Doha Asiad when they see action in the Guangzhou Games slated Nov. 12-27.
