Stage ‘bar’ parties in campuses – Lim
Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday said that universities and colleges offering law courses should start considering celebrating the conclusion of bar examinations within the confines of their campuses.
The idea was brought about by Lim following his visit to the victims of the explosion during the fourth Sunday of the bar exams who were treated at the Philippine General Hospital following the incident.
During his visit, Lim brought a wheelchair to Raissa Manuel, whose legs had to be amputated as a result of the incident and assured the victims of ready assistance from the city government in case they need help relating to the case or their condition.
According to Lim, who himself is a lawyer, he too has taken the bar exams during his time but that the celebrations were not the way they are done now, where those from the lower years conduct bar operations for four Sundays as a way of giving moral support to their bar examinees.
“Dapat pag-isipan mabuti ng mga kinauukulan ang mga bagay na ito. Siyempre, iba’t ibang eskuwela ang nandiyan sa bar ops at di maiiwasan na magkaroon ng kantiyawan, mauuwi sa mainitan tapos one thing leads to another,” the mayor said.
Celebrations, Lim explained further, can be carried out by the students concerned within the confines and safety of their own campuses `where they can celebrate to their hearts’ content.’
Lim also reminded the law students that what is guaranteed by the Constitution is the freedom to assemble `peacefully.’ Jerry Tan
