1 dead, 2 wounded in N. Cotabato blast
One person died and two others were wounded after a home-made bomb went off in a transport terminal in Carmen, North Cotabato yesterday morning.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo identified the three victims of the explosion, which took place at 10:36 a.m., as Nandy Puntongan, who died from severe injuries, Jhony Sabando and Artemio Rivera.
The reports said Puntongan was declared dead on arrival at the Amas Provincial hospital, where the two other victims were rushed and are being treated for shrapnel wounds.
The reports said that elements of the PNP’s Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) are still conducting a post-blast investigation to determine the type of IED used in the explosion, the second within a month in North Cotabato.
Col. Cesar Dionisio Sedillo Jr., commander of the Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade, said the still-unknown type of IED was planted by unidentified suspects at a fence near the bus terminal.
Late last month, at least 10 persons were killed and scores of others were injured when an IED went off inside a passenger bus in Matalam town, also of said province. (Anthony Vargas)
