6 more gun ban violators arrested
POLICE arrested six more persons for gun ban violations yesterday, the last day of the implementation of the total election gun ban put in effect for the recently concluded barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Five civilians and one government employee were found to have in their possession seven firearms, reports from the PNP’s National Election Monitoring and Action Center (Nemac) in Camp Crame said.
This brings to 926 the total number of persons arrested for violating the gun ban that took effect last September 25 and set to be lifted last midnight.
The Nemac reports said that of the 926 persons arrested, 817 were civilians, 27 were government employees, 18 were policemen and nine were military personnel.
A total of 768 firearms (510 low-powered and 258 high-powered) were confiscated.
Authorities have also seized seven air guns and gun replicas, 216 pieces of bladed weapons and 60 pieces of hand grenade during the 45-day period of the gun ban. Anthony Vargas
