Huwag munang ipatupad ang OFW insurance – Binay

HINIKAYAT ni Vice President Jejomar Binay ang Kamara na huwag munang i-implement ang compulsory insurance para sa migrant workers.

Ayon kay Binay, presidential adviser on overseas Filipino worker concerns, dapat munang rebyuhin ng Kamara ang Republic Act 10022 o ang amended na Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act.

Aniya, nagrereklamo ang recruitment agencies sa $72 compulsory insurance provision ng nasabing batas para sa mga OFWs dahil napakataas daw nito.

“Considering the complaints, I believe it is necessary to re-evaluate RA 10022. That is why I’m calling on the labor committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives Overseas Workers Affairs Committees to defer the implementation of the law pending its review,” ani Binay sa isang pahayag na in-upload sa Office of the Vice President website nitong Linggo.

Kinatigan ng Migrante-Taiwan ang panawagan ni Binay. Ayon sa grupo, tiyak na hindi ang recruiter o employer ang mapeperwisyo ng mandatory insurance kundi ang OFWs.

“We are pretty sure that OFWs are the ones who will suffer the most for the employers will pass the burden to poor contract workers,” ani Dave Chang, lider ng Migrante-Taiwan.

Nire-require ng inamyendahang batas na ang bawat agency-hired OFW ay magkaroon ng insurance. Ngunit dapat na walang gastusin ang OFW para rito.
