NBI arrests ‘most wanted’ KFR gangster
A NOTORIOUS kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) suspect, who had been in hiding for the past ten years, was nabbed by government agents yesterday while attempting to re-enter the country.
NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula identified the suspect as Rolando Fajardo, the third most wanted suspect in the order of battle of the bureau and even in the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Gatdula added that Fajardo is the “number one most wanted suspect for kidnap-for-ransom” for having nine cases.
He had gone into hiding and went to Rome to avoid arrest. Gatudla said they were informed by NBI assets that Fajardo was set to arrive in the country yesterday on board a Singaporean Airlines plane.
Gatdula said the suspect, who carried a P1-million reward for his arrest, had attempted four times to return to the country, but decided otherwise after sensing that arresting authorities were waiting for him at the airport.
Fajardo, who said he returned to seek medical treatment for gall bladder disease, denied the allegation. He was brought directly to the NBI headquarters in Manila for interrogation. Jing Villamente
