One more Ampatuan clan member nabbed
A combined police and military forces have arrested yesterday morning another member of the Ampatuan clan who is among those involved in the infamous Maguindanao massacre.
Manny Ampatuan was nabbed at around 4:50 a.m. at his house at Sitio Barte, Brgy. Capayoran, Pigcawayan, North Cotabato by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detective Group (CIDG) and operatives of the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), Camp Crame reported.
PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said Ampatuan was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) branch 221.
Cruz said the suspect, who belongs to a once-powerful political clan in Central Mindanao, is among the co-accused in the 57 counts of multiple murder case in connection with the gruesome killing.
The PNP spokesman said the suspect has a P250, 000 reward offered for his arrest.
There were 195 persons, led by former Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr., and his father, former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr., who are facing charges for the Maguindanao massacre.
Of the 195 suspects, 82 of them have been arrested and most of them incarcerated at the Bicutan Jail in Taguig City, while 113 other suspects still remain at large and are being tracked down by government forces. (Anthony Vargas)
