Terror alert still up in Metro Manila
THE intelligence community is strictly monitoring the movement of known terrorist groups in the country to prevent them from staging deadly attacks, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.
PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that even before the foiled mail-bomb terror attack in the United States (US) over the weekend, the intelligence community has maintained a vigilant stance against terror plots in the country.
“The intelligence community is focused on this and they are constantly monitoring the plans, movements and other activities of different threat groups in the country,” Cruz said.
He added: “This is meant to ensure that they (terrorists) will not move or there will be no bad or deadly incident that will happen in our country.”
He added that all terror or threat groups, whether it has links or no links with Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network are being watched and activities of its members are being checked by the intelligence community.
“We’re monitoring all threat groups in order to get some ideas from other groups and our intel unit are focusing on them and these are being looked for the security and safety of the public,” Cruz said.
The PNP spokesman also said that they have not received any reports that a particular vital installation or commercial areas are under threat or threatened to be attacked by terrorist groups. Anthony Vargas
