Aquino to unveil new strategy vs communist rebels
PRESIDENT Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is set to unveil on Tuesday his adminitration’s campaign plan against communist rebels.
“Oplan Bayanihan” will replace the previous administration’s “Oplan Bantay Laya,” which was blamed for extrajudicial killings.
Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta, Armed Forces spokesman, said the new campaign plan will be presentd during the AFP’s 75th Anniversary rites in Camp Aguinaldo.
“Oplan Bayanihan,” which was conceived by the AFP, will be different from “Oplan Bantay Laya” 1 and 2, which were heavy on combat operation.
“This is what we have always been saying… its mission statement is winning the peace, which hinges on two important approaches – whole nation- and people-centered approach,” Mabanta said.
The AFP spokesman said the whole-nation approach will have human security as its priority.
“This is a whole-nation approach, which means that even the common people, even the ordinary people should be involved and advocacy to human rights, international humanitarian law is paramount,” Mabanta said.
He said the emphasis of the new military campaign plan will cover the entire duration of the Aquino administration. Anthony Vargas
