Kuwait’s Catholic youth gears up for World Youth Day

The Catholic youth of the oil-rich Kuwait City is gearing up for the forthcoming 2011 World Youth Day, according to parish youth director Fr. Ben Barrameda.

Barrameda, one of the few Filipino priests working in the Apostolic Vicariate of Kuwait, met up with some 60 interested youth last December 6 at the Holy Family Cathedral and discussed the preparations for the coming world event in Madrid in August 2011.

“Keep the faith and care for each other because you are the future of the Church,” Fr. Barrameda counseled the youth.

The World Youth Day events are not only limited to the activities in Madrid, Spain but in the local Church as well. Kuwait sent 47 youth during the 2008 World Youth Day held in Sydney.

The registrants, between 18-35 years old, will be led by one Zelito Cardoso. Fr. Ben was quoted saying he looks forward to leading a group of about a hundred youngsters.

The registration will amount to some KD 300,000 with KD 75,000 to be remitted to Madrid for the official registration. The amount excludes the expenses in the Days in the Diocese in Bayonne, France with the free tour to Lourdes according to the organizers.

Barrameda required the interested youth to submit the registration fee, copy of the valid passport and civil ID, newly-issued and certified true copy of the baptismal certificate, and regular attendance to the meetings every first and third Mondays from 7:30 – 9:00 at the Cathedral. Interested participants could be single or married, provided married to a single spouse and involved in youth and other Church ministries.
The priest thanked Kuwait Bishop Camillo Ballin and Rev. Fr. Lionel Braganza, over-all youth director assigned in St. Therese parish for their all out support.

He also acknowledged the Salesians in Salmiya District and the other chaplains at St. Daniel Colomboni, Jleed Al-Shuyoukh and a certain Fr. Harry posted at Our Lady of Arabia in Ahmadi District for all the support extended to him and his apostolate. CBCP News
