SC asked to reconsider ruling on Truth body
MALACAÑANG on Thursday asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its unfavorable decision on President Benigno Aquino III’s order creating the Truth Commission that would investigate the anomalies during the Arroyo administration.
In a 60-page motion filed by Solicitor General Anselmo Cadiz, the Palace said Executive Order No. 1 had “no intent to unfairly discriminate against the previous administration.”
The Palace likewise argued that the order “does not single out individuals but refers to questionable transactions during the Arroyo regime.”
The high tribunal earlier ruled that Aquino’s order was unconstitutional.
It said the order violated the equal protection clause enshrined in the 1987 Charter because the commission would single out the alleged misdeeds of the previous administration.
