21 passengers of distressed vessel rescued off Batangas

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued all 21 crew and passengers of a distressed vessel which developed engine trouble in rough sea condition off Batangas on Friday.

The roll-on roll-off vessel MV Lolo Uweng accidentally had her anchor entangled with the chain of a navigational buoy while in the high seas of Batangas.

The 21 crew and other passengers were rescued and airlifted by PCG Helo 1636 and PCG Islander while the vessel was successfully towed by MT Arcturus and brought to the Wawa Anchorage in Batangas City on Friday.

This developed as big waves also forced another vessel to dock in Cebu on Friday night.

The Coast Guard Station Maasin reported that LCT Navistar of Gold Bridge Shipping departed Mandaue, Cebu for Hindang, Leyte at 10:59 p.m. Friday when battered by big waves some 6 nautical miles heading to Poro, Camotes, Cebu.

With significant volume of seawater entering her bow ramp and engine room, the shipmaster was forced to emergency dock at the Poro Port, in Camotes, Cebu.

The Coast Guard said both ships shall be inspected for seaworthiness prior to their next voyage. PNA
