8 Jolo chapel bomb suspects charged
AUTHORITIES have filed criminal charges against eight people in connection with the Christmas Day bombing of a Catholic chapel inside the police headquarters in Jolo, Sulu.
Charged before a local court were Alhabsi Misaya, Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan, Jul Atip Jalmaan, Sali Saed, an alias Gafur, alias Bong and two others.
Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag, regional police chief in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said the suspects are believed to be members of the extremist Abu Sayyaf bandits.
In a statement, Latag admitted that all suspects remained at large as they wait for the issuance of the warrant of arrest against them.
“We believed they are still in Sulu or in Tawi-Tawi, we are trailing them,” Latag said.
Artist’s sketches of the eight suspects have already been released by the police investigators, he said, and witnesses voluntarily offered information on the incident.
Eleven people, including a priest, were injured when the bomb exploded during the Christmas Mass that destroyed the Sacred Heart Chapel. CBCP News
