Bus explodes along EDSA
AN undetermined number of passengers were injured after a bus they were riding exploded along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Makati City Tuesday.
Larry Anzures of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said the “Newman” air-conditioned bus (TXJ-710) exploded before 2 p.m.
“May tinakbo na mga sugatan. Wasak ang harapan, lahat na windshield tanggal. The front of the bus was wrecked, the windshield was blown off,” Anzures said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said the incident occurred near the corner of EDSA and Buendia Avenue, near the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) station.
Anzures said he saw some bloodied bodies being brought out of the bus.
It was the second bus-related accident since Monday, when early rush-hour traffic along the elevated Manila-bound portion of Skyway was snarled after a passenger bus caught fire.
Skyway vice president for operations Ed Nepomuceno said the fire that hit the Ceres bus (DXU-470) forced them to temporarily close a part of the northbound portion of Skyway.
Nepomuceno said Skyway personnel rushed to the scene when they saw thick smoke and learned it was the bus that was on fire.
They called in firefighters after realizing their fire extinguishers could not handle the fire. He said the fire was placed under control before 8 a.m.
