Itinatayong Unibersidad sa Riyadh gumuho, 50 sugatan
Citing reports from fellow overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at the construction site of Princess Noura University where there is an on-going construction of several school buildings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, a Filipino migrant rights group today said a university building under construction collapses and has instantly rendered 50 casualties.
Eric Jocson, chairperson of the Kapatiran sa Gitnang Silangan (Fellowship in the Middle East), an affiliate organization ng Migrante-Saudi Arabia today said he had received Monday such information from OFWs working at the project site where the school buildings, mostly high-rise type, are being constructed.
The project site is located in exit 9, Riyadh. Initially, as per the reports, there are about 50 casualties when to under-construction structure of the building collapses.
“What worries us is that there are a numbers of OFWs working on that project; on our estimate, there are about three hundred to 500 OFWs,” said John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator.
Monterona said Jocson has been told to call on the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and request to immediately dispatch a team to look and verify the incident.
KGS-Migrante officers in Riyadh are still digging details of the incident and have been told to document if there are OFWs victim of the collapsed.
“We are praying that there would be no OFWs casualties; and if there are, we hope it not to be fatal and no loss of life. We urge the PH embassy to provide immediate assistance to the victims,” Monterona added. D’Jay Lazaro
