Man stabbed to death amid Nazarene feast
A 17-year-old man was stabbed dead by anunidentified assailant in front of the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park, Manila where the image of the Black Nazarene was brought as part of the festivities of famous image of the Christ on Saturday night .
Police identified the victim as Allan Prudenciado, 17, of Topda St., Sangandaan, Caloocan City. He died at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) due to a stab wound in the body.
The assailant fled after the incident.
Senior Police Officer 2 Edmundo Cabal, of the Manila Police District (MPD)-homicide section, said the incident occurred at 10:25 p.m. Saturday in front of the grandstand.
The victim, his friend ““Jay the Bano” and three others were chatting while observing people walking towards the vigil place for the Black Nazarene from a near distance when a group of minors arrived and shouted “walang papalag (don’t resist).”
Prudenciado’s friends ran away, leaving Prudenciado behind.
After a while, Jay Bano returned to look for the victim and saw him already sprawled on the ground bloodied.
The Black Nazarene was brought Saturday on to the grandstand where the vigil was held. Devotees queued to kiss and touch the image.
A mass was also celebrated the following day at the grandstand. PNA
