‘Pabaon’ probe should extend to GMA et al
A MILITANT lawmaker on Monday said that the “pabaon” (send-off) probe should extend to former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and his favorite generals including Generals Delfin Bangit and Jovito Palparan.
Anakpawis party-list Representative Rafael Mariano said “the multi-million-peso pabaon ‘tradition’ could not have happened without the knowledge and go signal of the commander-in-chief. Ms Arroyo as the former commander-in-chief of the armed forces must be included in the probe.”
Mariano also said the probe “should not stop to former chiefs-of-staff” of the armed forces citing former Colonel George Rabusa’s admission that Arroyo’s senior military officials were recipients of the AFP’s ‘special funds.’
“We suggest that Ms Arroyo’s favorite generals, like the Emperor and the Butcher, be included in the probe,” says Mariano referring to Ms Arroyo’s last chief-of-staff Gen. Delfin Bangit and former 7th Infantry Division Gen. Jovito Palparan respectively.
The “emperor,” Bangit’s codename, was implicated in the “Hello, Garci!” scandal that rocked the Arroyo administration in 2005, while Gen. Palparan was tagged by militants as “the butcher” for his involvement in the extra-judicial killings of activists during the Arroyo administration.
