Palace mulls declaring Chinese New Year a holiday
THE Palace is mulling whether or not to declare the upcoming Chinese New Year as a holiday.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has already tasked his legal team to study the proposal.
“The President has already tasked Executive Secretary Jojo Ochoa to look into the possibility of declaring Chinese New Year a holiday,” Lacierda said.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is set to deliberate on whether to declare Chinese New Year, which falls on a Thursday (Feb. 3), a special non-working holiday.
A bill was approved by the committee on revision of laws proposing for the declaration of Chinese New Year as a holiday.
It is a consolidation of House Bill Nos. 1072, 611 and 2715. PNA
