Solon seeks creation of Amusement Parks Safety Board
A lawmaker has sought the immediate passage of a bill creating an independent body that will ensure the safety of rides in all amusement
Rep. Marcelino “Marcy” R. Teodoro (1st District, Marikina) said House Bill 1549, which he authored, vests the Amusement Parks Safety Board
with the power to accredit, regulate and supervise theme parks, amusement parks, carnivals and other similar establishments to
guarantee the safety of the people, especially the children.
Teodoro stressed the urgent need for the passage of the measure despite existence of various laws that ensure the safety of the youth.
“With lots of new adventure rides proliferating in theme parks all over the country, it is but justifiable to have an independent board
that will certify the safeness of each and every ride in every park,” Teodoro said.

The proposed Amusement Park Safety Board shall be composed of seven members, headed by the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection with the
remaining six members appointed by the President.
On top of the existing local permit requirements in order to operate a business, the Board shall also issue a permit to operate, for all
existing or new amusement parks, small or fixed.
The Board shall check the safeness of an amusement park; will allow or disallow its operation; shall consult with engineering authorities
and organizations who are studying and developing amusement ride safety standards and adopt a safety code for all amusement rides in
