House congratulates Donaire
THE House of Representatives on Monday adopted unanimously House
Resolution 979 commending and honoring Nonito “The Filipino Flash”
Donaire, Jr. for his spectacular second round knockout of WBC and WBO
champion Fernando Montiel last Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Resolution, authored by fellow Boholano, Rep. Erico Aumentado,
stressed that Donaire’s victory “has given honor and glory to the
Philippines in general and to Bohol and General Santos City in
“That victory has placed Nonito Donaire, Jr., in the world firmament
of boxing which strongly indicates that he would become the putative
successor of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao as the pound-for-pound king of
boxing,” the resolution states.
HR 979 was approved and adopted by the House plenary in consolidation
with five other similar resolutions filed by his colleagues last
With his young age, the veteran lawmaker from Bohol, predicted that
Donaire can still give more honor and prestige to the Philippines as
an emerging boxing power of the world, and his string of victories –
most by knockouts – is an indicia of his climb towards international
eminence in professional boxing thereby giving distinct honor to the
country and the Filipino people.
