Kidnapped prof, student released unharmed – PNP
A COLLEGE professor and a university student abducted last week by armed men were released by their captors late Thursday afternoon in a remote village in Lanao del Sur, police reported Friday.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the released victims as Chris Anthony Gulfan, 23, a faculty member of Al-Kwarizmi International College, and Aubrey Vertudez, 19, a student of the Mindanao State University (MSU).
Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag, police director of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), said the two were released unharmed at around 5:30 p.m. in Barangay Panggao in Piagapo town. The two were released to the custody of a team of negotiators led by Marawi City Mayor Fahad Salik. It was not reported if there was a ransom paid in exchange for the release of the victims.
Gulfan and Vertudez, both members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, were abducted by armed men last February 19 inside the MSU campus in Marawi City while walking back to their dormitory, the reports said. Anthony Vargas
