Lawmaker to Aquino: Lay down concrete proposals on socioeconomic reforms in GPH-NDF talks
A MILITANT lawmaker today urged President Aquino to lay down his administration’s proposal on socioeconomic reforms on the peace negotiations between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines instead of blinding the Filipino people with abstract and empty peace rhetoric.
“The Filipino people should not be misled by the Aquino administration’s empty peace rhetorics and, instead demand for concrete solutions that would address the roots of the armed conflict like landlessness and joblessness among others,” says Anakpawis party-list Representative Rafael Mariano.
Mariano said “the absence of any concrete economic proposals from the Aquino government means the continuity of anti-people policies of liberalization, deregulation, and privatization.”
“These anti-people policies cannot, in any way, help in forging a comprehensive agreement on socioeconomic reforms, much more in achieving a just and lasting peace,” Mariano said.
Mariano reiterated calls on the Aquino administration to certify House Bills 374 and 375 or the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill and the P125 across the board wage hike bill, respectively.
“These twin measures, the GARB and the legislated wage hike bill, are long-standing socioeconomic demands of the Filipino people,” Mariano said.
The committees on agrarian reform and labor are set to separately conduct deliberations on the twin bills on Wednesday.
