Metro crime rate down in 2010
THE crime rate in Metro Manila took a significant dip in 2010 compared to the previous year despite the series of crimes the past four months.
Figures from the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) revealed on Sunday, February 6, that total crime reported in 2010 ws 41, 765, which is lower by 30-percent to the 59, 863 crimes reported in 2009.
The said figures were released on the heels of several high profile crimes ranging from series of carjacking incidents and the bombing of a passenger bus in Makati City that killed five persons and wounded 13 others.
The NCRPO figures showed that crime against persons, such as murder, homicide, rape and mugging declined big time from the 14, 230 cases reported in 2009 to 8, 584 cases last year.
It added that crimes against property such as robbery and theft also went down with only 19, 428 cases reported last year as compared to the 26, 773 cases reported to the police in 2009.
Non-index crimes, which are violations of special laws such as city ordinances, also went down with only 13, 755 cases recorded in 2010 as compared to the 18, 713 cases in 2009. Anthony Vargas
