Murder suspect surrenders
THE suspect in the murder of a youngster in Pandacan, Manila peacefully surrendered following a negotiation between his parents and the authorities.
The suspect, identified only as Jhomar, 17, is now in the custody of the Manila Youth Reception Center headed by social welfare chief Jay dela Fuente.
Manila Police District Station 10 Commander Col. Remigio Sedanto, who worked on the surrender along with Dela Fuente, said they were hunting down Jhomar for the murder of Smith Dominique Meren, also 17 years old, an out-of-school youth.
According to Sedanto, Meren died from a wound caused by a home-made gun.
He also raised the possibility that the incident resulted from a gang war involving youngsters in the area.
Sedanto and Dela Fuente coordinated with the barangay officials in the area to talk with the suspect’s parents, who readily agreed to surrender their son. Verlin Ruiz
