NPA releases POW Veluz
THE New People’s Army on Friday released Prisoner of War (POW) M/Sgt. Mario Veluz after an investigation cleared him of his possible continuing active involvement in counter-revolutionary activities.
The Herminio Alfonso Command-Front 53 Operations Command of the New People’s Army in a statement said Veluz has no direct culpability nor serious violations to the revolutionary movement.
M/Sgt. Veluz was accosted during a February 6 NPA checkpoint along Davao-Bukidnon national highway. His .45 cal pistol sidearm was confiscated during the checkpoint.
Veluz had been on combat duty in the Philippine Army for more than three decades. While under the custody of the people’s army, the rights of M/Sgt. Veluz were protected under the International Humanitarian Law.
