2 soldiers killed, 2 hurt in landmine blast in Davao
TWO government troopers were killed while two others were wounded following a landmine explosion in a remote village in Davao del Sur Wednesday, military reports said Thursday.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said the blast took place at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Antonio Parlade said soldiers belonging to the 39th Infantry Battalion were on a civil-military operations program in the rebel-infested province when they were hit by a landmine.
Two soldiers died on the spot due to injuries sustained in the explosion, which they believed to have been planted by communist rebels, while the other two were brought to a nearby army hospital where they are being treated, the reports said.
However, the Army spokesman declined to name the dead soldiers since their families have yet to be notified. Anthony Vargas
