5 killed, 8 injured injured as bomb explodes beside school in Jolo, Sulu
FIVE were killed and three others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded beside an elementary school in downtown Jolo, Sulu late Thursday afternoon, March 10.
Initial reports reaching Camp Crame, said the IED planted by unknown suspects went off at around 5:25 pm beside the fence of the Salih Ututalum Elementary School along Scott Rd., on Brgy. Lower San Raymundo in Jolo.
Two persons died on the spot, one of them identified as Habier Mohammad, 38, while the three other fatalities died while being treated at a nearby hospital.
The injured victims were identified as Muddasal Sabuddin, 40, Jernalyn Haiber, 21, Abdul Bairulla, 30, Sukarno Jilah, 58, Annong Sabri, 40, Marino NAdila, 42, Nurin Akmad, 21, and Salma Gaspar, 41.
The explosion took place even as police and military forces in Jolo increased their security following intelligence reports last Monday, March 7, that two IEDs were discreetly brought to Jolo from Indanan town by suspected militants. Anthony Vargas
