Abductors free DENR officer, wife in Lanao
GUNMEN released over the weekend a legal officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and his wife, who were abducted in a remote village in Lanao del Norte last Thursday.
Reports reaching Camp Crame on Monday said that Poroa Botawan Sangcaan, DENR legal officer in Iligan City, and his wife Bairah, a public school teacher, were released by their captors Saturday night in Barangay Mamaanun, Piagapo town.
Reports said the couple were abducted by four gunmen while the victims were on their way to attend a gathering at Barangay Kalanganan, Pantar in Lanao del Norte.
The reports added that the abduction of the Sangcaan couple may be related to the work of Bairah, who served as an election officer in the village and youth council elections held last October.
However, the reports did not say if there were any ransom paid to the gunmen for the release of the victims. Anthony Vargas
