ASG released abducted restaurant caretaker
MANILA, Philippines – a restaurant caretaker from Basilan was released unharmed on late Monday afternoon several hours after he was abducted by gunmen believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
Reports reaching the Phlippine National Police (PNP)’s operations center in Camp Crame said that caretaker Rolando Dela Cruz was released unharmed by his abductors at around 5:30 pm in the vicinity of Barangay Sinulatan, Tuburan Town, Basilan.
The reports said that dela Cruz was released by his abductors following ‘pressure’ from ‘combat pursuit operations’ mounted jointly by the Basilan Provincial Police office and the army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion.
The victim was turned immediately to the custody of Lamitan City mayor Roderick Furigay following his release, the reports said.
The victim, who works as a caretaker for a restaurant owned by prominent Basilan businessman Charlie Cawley, was snatched by a group of gunmen on early dawn Monday in Barangay Matibay, Lamitan City.
The abduction was carried out by men under ASG sub-commander Nur Hasssan Jamiri and Ustadz Salim Tado alias “Pula” and apparently in retalion for arrest of ASG member Nawaf Jainudin early this month. Anthony Vargas
