DND allays ‘radiation scare’
THE government on Monday, March 14, called on the public not to believe on rumors spreading through text messages that the country will be affected by radiation fallout in case of a nuclear power plant meltdown in quake-ravaged Japan.
The Department of National Defense (DND) issued a statement reiterating to the public that the country is not directly affected by any radiation as a result of incidents in Japan.
The DND statement added that the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) are closely monitoring the situation in Japan.
Japanese authorities are trying to put under control the temperature of the Fukushima Daichi nuclear power plant after its cooling system failed as a result of a magnitude 9 earthquake last Friday, March 11.
The DND also cautioned the public to refrain from forwarding text messages that may cause the people to panic. Anthony Vargas
