Female NPA leader in Masbate, nabbed
MILITARY and police operatives arrested a high-ranking female New People’s Army (NPA) leader early Tuesday morning in a remote village in Masbate province, reports said.
Maj. Harold Cabunoc, spokesman for the Army’s 9th Infantry Division, identified the arrested the rebel leader as Vangie Herrero alias Ka Vivian.
Cabuno said Herrero, who has a P150,000 reward offered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for her arrest, was a staff officer of the executive committee of the Komiting Probinsya Masbate.
Herrero was nabbed by joint elements of the Army’s 9th Infantry Battalion and Masbate Provincial Police Office at around 5:30 a.m. in Sitio Lamak, Barangay Mabini in Uson town, reports said.
Cabunoc said Herrero was arrested based on a warrant of arrest for murder and rebellion cases issued by Judge Maximo Ables of 5th Judicial Region, Branch 47 in Masbate City.
The reports said the arrest came after police and military authorities in the province received information about Herrero’s whereabouts. Anthony Vargas
