Former vice-mayor shot dead in Batangas
MANILA, Philippines – A former municipal vice-mayor in Batangas was shot and killed in an ambush staged by two motorcycle riding gunmen early Wednesday morning in Batangas, police reports said.
Initial reports reaching the PNP’s central operations center in Camp Crame identified the victim as Noriel Salazar, a former vice-mayor of Alitagtag town who belongs to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
The report said Salazar was aboard a Toyota Lite Ace Van (UAT-112) parked at the town’s Poblacion East when he was shot in the head by two motorcycle riding gunmen at around 8:45 am.
The suspects fled toward Barangay Pinagkrusan Junction also in the same town after shooting the former vice-mayor.
Salazar was rushed by witnesses to a nearby hospital, but he died some three hours laters due to the gunshot wound he sustained in the head, the reports said. Anthony Vargas
