Labor education sa college curriculum pasado na sa Kamara

INAPRUBAHAN na sa House of Representatives sa ikatlo at pinal na pagbasa ang panukalang pagkakaroon ng labor education subject sa college curriculum.

Ayon kay Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara (Lone District, Aurora), chairman ng House committee on higher education, na ang  edukasyon sa  kolehiyo  sa isyu ng paggawa ay magbibigay ng kaalaman sa sitwasyon ng paggawa sa bansa at sa kasalukuyang  problema  ng  kabuhayan

‚ÄúAs they will eventually become a member of the labor force, they should be aware of their rights and privileges as workers as well as their responsibilities to society,‚ÄĚ ani Angara.

Kikilalanin bilang  Labor Education Act of 2011 ang House Bill 4210 na inakda ni Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza (Party-List, TUCP) na  nagbibigay mandato sa  Commission on Higher Education (CHED) na isama  ang labor education sa social science subjects na itinuturo  sa general education curriculum  sa  kolehiyo.

‚ÄúIt is imperative that college students who will eventually join the labor force as workers and employees have knowledge about labor rights, worker‚Äôs welfare and benefits, core labor standards, labor laws and regulations,‚ÄĚ dagdag pa ni Mendoza .

Nakapaloob  sa  panukala  ni Mendoza na isali rin sa  national and global labor situation, labor market concerns, labor issues, overseas work and related problems sa nasabing subject.

Ang  Pilipinas  aniya  ay may college student population na maykabuuang bilang na 2,619,795 students as of Academic Year 2008-2009.

Mula ito sa mga estudyante  na  naka-enroll sa  private universities and colleges na may  1.6 million na bilang  at  mahigit naman  sa 820,000 mula  sa state universities and colleges. Samantalang  ang Local universities and colleges ay may 96,000  at  ang iba ay mula sa iba pang government higher education institutions

Inihayag naman ni  Rafael Mapalo, spokesperson ng Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP)ang  suporta sa nasabing panukala dahil sa magiging tulong ito sa labor sector. Beth Aragon
