MILF steps up measures for disputes resolution

THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Central Committee said it  formalizes its steps to institutionalize measures to address varying feuds or rido and internal disputes.

MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad issued the statement during the recent Exit Call in Camp Darapanan of the outgoing Malaysian-contingents with the International Monitoring Team (IMT) headed by His Excellency MGen Datuk Baharom Bin Hamzah.

Chairman Murad explained that the MILF Central Committee recently unanimously adopted a Resolution for the creation a Tribunal that would handle cases of feuds or rido, particularly involving MILF leaders, commanders and rank and file.

“The MILF is on the process of institutionalizing these measures and hopefully these will beef up our efforts to mitigate internal disputes and properly address rido cases that are being brought to the MILF for proper disposal,” Chairman Murad.

MGen Baharom lauded this effort, saying the MILF has the clout and can significantly help in addressing the problem of feuds and rido.

The incoming Malaysian contingents that would lead the IMT – Mindanao Batch 6 will be coming on March 7, 2011.

Last year, the MILF had successfully resolved the long-standing riod between the families of Simpal and Badi in Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao and the several feuding families in Pagalungan and Pikit in Cotabato. These cases had inflicted tremendous casualties and damages on the feuding families, which involved some MILF commanders and members. However, the MILF was never involved organizationally.

“The MILF has been persistently doing everything to prevent and resolve these disputes being mindful of its damaging repercussions in the course of our struggle and search for peace in our homeland,” Murad said.

These problems have been lingering, he said, adding “Frankly, the main cause of these conflicts is generally the ineffectiveness of the prevailing justice system of the government and the consequence of being systematically colonized or under a government not acceptable to the Bangsamoro people.”

He expressed belief that cases of rido and internal disputes will not affect the ongoing peace talks and ceasefire between the government and the MILF.
