Pres Aquino to visit Indonesia, Singapore to strengthen bilateral ties
PRESIDENT Benigno S. Aquino III will undertake state visits to Indonesia on March 7 to 9 and to Singapore on March 9 to 11 to strenghten bilateral and regional ties with the said nations.
These visits follow the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) tradition of a new Head of State paying courtesy visits to fellow ASEAN Member-Countries, the Department of Foreign Affiars said..
In Indonesia, Aquino will meet with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, where they will discuss fisheries cooperation, maritime boundary delimitation, and other matters.
The President will also witness the signing of three agreements, namely on basic education, sports cooperation, and on cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes and capacity building.
These agreements aim at enhancing people-to-people linkages between the two countries.
In Singapore, Aquino will meet Singaporean President SR Nathan, and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, where they will discuss government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives, the Philippines-Singapore Action Plan and other matters of bilateral and ASEAN concerns.
The Singaporean government will confer on President Aquino the honor of having an orchid breed named after him, a courtesy accorded to visiting Heads of State.
During the President’s state visits, he will also meet the Filipino communities in Jakarta and Singapore, as well as with business taipans and organizations, where he will drum up support for the investment initiatives of the Administration.
