Speaker receives Singson’s resignation
SPEAKER Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. Tuesday accepted the resignation of Rep. Ronald Singson from the House of Representatives.
“His resignation should start the process of selecting the proper mode by which we can ensure that the constituents of the first district of Ilocos Sur are not only cared for but represented in this Chamber,”
the Speaker said.
Under Republic Act 6645 which implements Section 9, Article VI of the Constitution, vacancies occurring at least one (1) year before the next regular elections may be filled through a special election called
by the House of Representatives.
The Speaker also noted that Rep. Singson’s resignation forestalls further proceedings in the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges which has earlier assumed jurisdiction over his case. “Rep. Singson’s
resignation spared the House from a potentially divisive process,” the Speaker said.
